SHOLDON'S RECORD:
A Life of Perseverance, Service, and Advocacy

Striped Bass Selfie 1

From Humble Beginnings to Hard-Earned Success

Sholdon Daniels’ journey is one of grit, determination, and an unshakable belief in the power of perseverance. Growing up in North Texas, Sholdon learned the value of hard work at an early age. His first job was selling vacuum cleaners door-to-door as a teenager. Later, he worked long nights washing dishes at an Italian restaurant—all while still in high school. These early experiences taught him the importance of resilience and the dignity of earning an honest dollar.

After high school, Sholdon answered the call to serve his country as a proud soldier in the U.S. Army, where he honed the discipline and leadership skills that would define his career. Following his military service, Sholdon became a full-time student, determined to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer and serving his community.

In April of 2016, tragedy struck my family when my younger cousin was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking home from work. The driver fled to Mexico, evading law enforcement to this day. The pain and anger of losing someone so close to me was overwhelming, and it opened my eyes to the similar losses so many others have endured—losing loved ones to drunk drivers or reckless motorists who fail to respect cyclists and pedestrians.

But I couldn’t let that pain go unanswered. Instead of just grieving, I took action. I successfully advocated for the city to pass a resolution recognizing May as Bicycle and Pedestrian Awareness Month. I drafted and proposed a new ordinance to protect pedestrians and cyclists on major streets and worked to have certain key thoroughfares—those connecting schools and parks to neighborhoods—designated as "bicycle boulevards." These boulevards give cyclists the right of way and prioritize safety, particularly for children biking or walking to and from school.

It gives me immense pride knowing I did something to make a difference, to help protect others, and to honor my cousin’s memory. Advocacy is about more than speaking up—it’s about taking meaningful action to create change.

A Defender of Justice and Advocate for Communities

As a public defender, Sholdon has spent the past decade fighting for justice and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their financial means, has access to quality representation. He knows firsthand the struggles of everyday Texans and has made it his mission to advocate for fairness, equity, and opportunity.

In addition to his legal work, Sholdon has supported small businesses across North Texas, using his experience as a former door-to-door salesman and B2B professional to help entrepreneurs navigate the challenges of business ownership.

Inspired by a Legacy of Leadership

Sholdon’s passion for politics and public service was deeply influenced by his late uncle, William “Bill” Goodson, who served as Mayor of Whitewright, Texas, for 19 years.

Mayor Goodson’s legacy of leadership, integrity, and dedication to his community continues to inspire Sholdon’s vision for a better Texas. Sholdon also draws strength from historical figures like Charles Sumner and Abraham Lincoln, leaders who fought tirelessly for justice and equality.

A Leader Who Understands the People

Sholdon’s life experience—from growing up in poverty to becoming a respected attorney and advocate—has given him a deep understanding of the struggles and aspirations of North Texans. He knows the value of a hand up and the grind of hard work. He’s not a career politician; he’s a dedicated public servant who believes in listening to the people and delivering results.

Now, he’s ready to bring that same determination, resilience, and commitment to Washington as the next representative for Texas’ 30th Congressional District.

After my time in the Army, I spent some time studying at El Centro College in Dallas, where I pursued my passions for business and film-making. It was a fun and exciting time in my life, and I gained a lot of valuable skills that have helped me in my career.

A Record of Service and Advocacy

Sholdon’s passion for service didn’t begin with his legal career—it has been a cornerstone of his life. He volunteered as a community organizer for environmental groups, worked to register voters, and even protested corruption and injustices in Dallas ISD during the 2000s. His commitment to standing up for what’s right is unwavering.

While studying at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Sholdon founded the Civil Rights Law Society, an organization dedicated to fostering legal advocacy for the underserved. He graduated and passed the bar on his first attempt, an accomplishment achieved through sheer determination. His journey wasn’t without challenges—living on couches and relying on the generosity of colleagues to make ends meet—but his perseverance never wavered.
